Egypt: Abu Simbel Road Reopens


Tourists to watch sun fall on Ramses II


About three thousand tourists yesterday flocked along Aswan-Abu Simbel Road, on the first day of its opening, to watch the Sun fall perpendicularly on Ramses II. The 60-bus tourist group started to visit Abu Simbel yesterday.

Assistant Minister of the Interior and Aswan's Security Director Maj-Gen. Osamah Abu Mazen says it is expected that the tourist groups, heading for the site, may increase. It is noteworthy that the phenomenon takes place twice a year: on 22nd February and 22nd October.
