The Sofitel Cecil in Alexander, Egypt
The Sofitel Cecil in Alexandria has always been considered a romantic hotel to its visitors. Established in 1929, this is one of the historical hotels that has never been anything except a hotel, unlike others that began as palaces or royal lodges. However, the hotel is operated by the Sofitel hotel chain, certainly experienced in historical hotels. Their other properties in Egypt include the Winter Palace in Luxor and one of the most famous of all hotels in Egypt, the Old Cataract in Aswan. Some notable guests have included Agatha Christie, the Prince of Sweden, Josephine Baker, Omar Sharif, Field Marshall Montgomery, and Mohamed Aly (Cassius Clay).
With only 83 spacious rooms, including historical suites, the hotel is small and accommodating. It has recently been refurnished and updated, and is a five star hotel. With a panoramic view of the Eastern Harbor of Alexandria, central location near good shopping and entertainment, this hotel is hard to beat, and there are few other high end hotels in the area of Alexandria where it is located.
Rooms
All rooms are air conditioned, have color TVs with satellite reception, private baths, telephones, radios, minifridges, hair dryers and private balconies. And unlike many hotels in Egypt, there are also non smoking rooms.
Other facilities include a fitness room with sauna and massage, a bookshop, bank, hairdresser and car rental service, as well as a complete business center.
Restaurants
The main Le Jardin restaurant is open 24 hours a day with 24/7 room service, and their is also a Lobby Lounge that serves refreshments and light snacks, also 24 hours a day. However, other restaurants include The Le Plate d'Or, which serves great French cuisine, the roof garden, or China House Restaurant and the Cafe Trottoire, serving Summer outdoor specials on the sea-front terrace.

Night Life
For entertainment, there is Monty's Bar, named for Field Marshal Montgomery. This bar serves cocktails and long drinks as well as snacks. Ceaser Palace is both a restaurant and Nightclub with live entertainment including folkloric shows which serves regional cuisine. Finally, there is the Orientique Discotheque and a well appointed Casino for foreign guests, which includes American roulette, Black Jack and slot machines, together with free drinks to players. Other Facilities The hotel also has a full range of banquet and conference facilities, including three main halls, with meeting space for anywhere from 30 to 120 guests and the availability of high tech audio-visual equipment.
Hotel Lobby All in all, the Sofitel Cecil is one of the finest hotels in Alexandria Egypt, with a good location, great views and a reputation for excellent service. Sofitel Cecil Hotel 16, Saad Zagloul Square 1726
