The Movenpick Jolie Ville, Luxor, EgyptBy Jimmy Dunn What a nice, comfortable hotel. The Movenpick is almost a Luxor institution, located on its own garden island (Crocodile Island) at Luxor, Egypt. This hotel is truly and completely a family oriented facility and notable due to the number of return customers to the resort. Also notable are the number of guests that seem to come here, without much interest in the tombs of Thebes are the temples of Luxor and Karnak.  The swimming pool and other areas seems to be filled all through the day, while many hotels in Luxor seem abandoned during tour hours. The rooms are bungalow style, with satellite TVs, direct dial telephones, mini-fridges, private baths with showers and bath and individually controlled air conditioning. There are also terraces which usually face large garden areas and sometimes unusual for Egypt, non-smoking rooms. Movenpicks are not necessarily know for huge guest rooms, but indeed, there is little reason to stay in the rooms for long. Recreational activities include an an outdoor pool, four tennis courts with flood-lighting, a jogging track, soccer field, table tennis, bicycles, a billiards room, volleyball courts, gymnastics, massages and felucca sailing. For the kids, there is a children's club, and a surprisingly large zoo. But we can't refer to it as a petting zoo exactly.  The rather large Croc looks dead, or at least asleep, but beware, it is not! For dining and drinking there is the Mövenpick restaurant (à la carte), a specialty restaurant offering European gourmet meals in a cozy setting.  The Jolie Ville (buffet, snacks) offers buffet style meals for breakfast and dinner and daily theme nights. Shehrazade terrace has BBQ, sandwich and ice cream bazaar and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a wonderful Nile view. The final dinning experience is the Fellah's tent which includes sunset sailing, traditional food, and a folklore show all in a separate area of the island. They say it offers an evening of Arabian delights right out of 1001. For casual drinks, there is the Crocodile bar, a traditional, open hotel bar within the lobby area as well as the Nile terrace bar which has a snack bar, drinks, coffee and cakes and ice cream amidst a tropical garden!  The a secretarial service, and a complete banquet facility with seating for up to 200 people. This hotel is truly one of Luxor's best values. While we do not consider it a budget hotel, it is reasonable, and the amenities, gardens and hospitality are hard to beat.
