Weather in Egypt in October

October is another major month for tourism in Egypt.  It’s a very popular time to visit the country for two reasons.  The first is the great weather Egypt experiences during the beginning of the cool month.  Temperatures in October are in the high 70°sF/low 80°sF (mid 20°sC) in most of the country, with Upper Egypt cooling off to temperatures in the 90°F (35°C).  The second and perhaps more interesting reason is the Abu Simbel Sun Festival that takes place on October 22nd.  On this date, traditionally believed to be the date of Ramses II’s coronation, the sun aligns with specific openings in the temple, illuminating statues of Ramses II and the sun gods, leaving the statue of the god Ptah, god of darkness, in the dark all year long.  It’s a very good time of year for this festival to take place, since Abu Simbel is pretty far south, in an area that can get pretty warm during the summer months.
