Egyptian Museum: Hatshepsut

A splendid head of Queen of Hatshepsut, daughter of Tuthmosis I. She married her half brother Tuthmosis II, who died early. She then assumed the regency on behalf of her nephew Tuthmosis III but, beginning in the second year of his reign, she proclaimed herself Pharaoh of upper and lower Egypt and ruled for around 20 years, from c.1479 to 1457 BC.
