Osiris, a mythical king from the earliest times of the Ancient Egyptian history, is represented here in his most common form: a mummiform god enveloped with a garment and seated on a throne. He wears an "atef" crown with two ostrich feathers and an uraeus and he holds a crooked sceptre and a flail. The usual offering formula is around the base of the statue. The dead kings identified themselves with Osiris and his heavenly elements. Osiris was therefore an essential component in their political and religious belief systems.
