Infrastructure and Utilities
All existing infrastructure has been erected and supplied by OPTD. To
ensure total consistency and quality of services, El Gouna has been rendered
totally independent of its neighboring towns in all aspects, including
utilities, power supply, electrical generation, micro-waves and satellite
phones, a private airport, marinas, local and regional transportation
network and even its own hospital and school.
Water
Wells are the main water source, treated by modern water treatment plants.
El Gouna also has its own water-bottling factory producing "Crystalina"
water, which is sold throughout El Gouna and also has tapped the Hurghada
market. The water comes from a special spring in the Mountains and is piped
to the factory, established in 1996.
Sewage
The 5 star hotels are all equipped with their own sewage treatment plants
and the rest of El Gouna is served by a state-of-the-art Treatment Plant.
Water produced is used for irrigation of the golf course.
Electricity
Four Electrical Power Plants are fuelled by diesel generators.
Telephone Lines
Internal Telephone Exchange AT&T, and the Main El Gouna National
Telephone Exchange that facilitates a mobile receiving antenna.
Roads
Large network of roads, including over 15 km of paved asphalt roads.
Lagoons
They are covering around 10% of the total area.
Hospital
El Gouna has a fully equipped hospital for any medical treatments, including dentist, pediatrics,
ophthalmology, general surgery and Intensive Care Units. The hospital is accessible to all hotel guests and
in a proximity of 2 to 7 min from any of El Gouna hotels.

Schools
El Gouna International School
El Gouna International School (EGIS) was established by Orascom to serve the local and international
community and officially inaugurated by the First Lady, Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak on 29th October 1998. The
school offers two separate curricular, the Thanaweyah Ammah (Egyptian) and the British National
Curriculum (International). The Headteachers, one for each section, are both experienced academics with
an extensive professional career in education. The academic grades currently available at the EGIS are
Kindergarten to Primary 3 in the National system, and Kindergarten to Primary 6 in the International
section. As the school develops, it will increase one grade per academic year in the International Section
and will extend to Prep 1 in the National Section. The teachers are from England, Ireland, Italy and Egypt.
The capacity of the school is 330 students, with approximately 80 students currently enrolled. It
comprises 9 air-conditioned classrooms for primary education on 2 floors. Each of the
11 classrooms features its own courtyard, in addition to the main playground, which includes a Jungle Gym as well as an
AstroTurf area suitable for volleyball, tennis and basketball.

The school also runs a comprehensive program of after-school activities and the wide range of facilities and sports that El Gouna offers are available for the benefit of the pupils.
Nursery
"Little Gounies" nursery is for those children aged between 3
month till 4 years. With a foreign certified nannies, they look after the
children, and a private home baby-sitting service is also offered The
premises are air-conditioned with a shaded garden, twin slide tunnel,
climbers, sandpit and beach toys. The nursery is open every day of the year
and short-term attendance is possible by arrangement with the Little Gounies
management.

Orascom Aviation and Airport
El Gouna has an asphalt runway, which presently measures 1700 meters long and 30 meters wide.
Investments are being made in order to prepare the airport for expansion so that it can cater for
International charter flights by the year 2003. Attached to the runway is a hangar which is used to
shelter small planes, whilst a separate seating area is provided for arriving and departing guests. The
Airport has installed a night-landing system that enables planes to arrive and depart after sunset.
Orascom Aviation is designed to provide interested guests with a luxurious flying service to almost
anywhere in Egypt, as well as neighbouring countries. Departures are possible from Cairo airport, El Gouna
airport or any other local airport. The service was founded in February 1996 and is operated by a team of
professionals including Engineers, Captains, Pilots, Operation Managers, Catering and Station Managers.
Orascom Aviation is a holder of:
- An air taxi permit
- A certificate of air worthiness
- A certificate of insurance for passengers, luggage, hull and third party liability.
Domestic flights include Alexandria, Aswan, Abu Simbel, El Arish, El Gouna, Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, Luxor, Marsa Matrouh, Taba, St Catherines and Tur Sinai. International charter flights can include Athens, Aquaba, Beirut, Crete, Damascus, Eilat, El Medina, Jeddah, Istanbul, Larnaka, and Tel Aviv.
