July Hot Summer Deals to Egypt
by Jimmy Dunn
This summer is a great time to visit Egypt. True, tourism is off, but that means less crowds and better prices. Lets take a look at some of the fantastic deals provided by tour operators, hotels and others:
For example, Misr Travel, one of the oldest tour operators in Egypt, is offering six nights at the historic Mena House Hotel, a ten minute walk from the Great Pyramids and Sphinx, for only $899, including airfare! One may also enjoy the downtown location of the Ramses Hilton, which in our view is perhaps the better location. The tour includes round trip non-stop airfare from New York's JFK airport to Cairo, a half day tour of the pyramids and sphinx, the Egyptian Museum and the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar. BA buffet breakfast is provided daily, and there are a number of supplements, including for $400 additional per person a three night Nile Cruise, or for $300 an additional three nights in Sharm el-Sheikh.
Upscale Travel Egypt also has an excellent deal. For $1,299 including air (or $599 ground only), this is a six night tour that includes four day and three night all inclusive deluxe Nile Cruise aboard the Mirage, one of Egypt's newest and finest Nile Cruise boats. Travel Egypt is well known for their exemplary tours of Egypt, and this one gets you to all the important sites.
Now here's a great deal out of ATA Tour in Egypt. This is a land only package (no international air), BUT, its seven nights with a five star Deluxe Nile Cruise and Four Star Hotels for... only $289 USD! This tour hits all the highlights from Upper to Lower Egypt, and the cruise is aboard the well known M/S Presidential Nile Cruiser.
The Presidential Cruiser
Another Egyptian Land Tour Operator, Milano Travel, has a Six day tour, including four days and three nights aboard the Beau Soleil Nile Cruise ship, for only $210 per person. Of course, this trip also covers all the basics both in Upper and Lower Egypt including stopovers at Edfu, Kom-Ombo, the Valley of the Kings and the Luxor and Karnak Temples.
The Egypt Connection in the US is also offering a two week stay in Egypt for $1,295 per person, including round trip airfare from JFK. This trip takes one all over Egypt, and includes a 4 star Nile Cruise aboard the African Queen. Note that the hotels are three star, though upgrades are available.
Out of the UK, First 48 always offers some fine, inexpensive tours staring as low as 150 pounds sterling for a four day Cairo break, which does not include airfare from the UK. They have tours of 15 days or longer for as little as 425 pounds sterling. Right now a few specials include include the 15 Day Grand Egyptian Adventure (three star level), which includes a tour to the Great Pyramids, a Felucca Ride down the Nile, a Visit to the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Karnka, Snorkeling in the Blue Hole in the Red Sea, and Sunrise on Mount Sinai. This tour is usually 425 GBP, but mention Tour Egypt and the price drops to GBP 395 . They also have an 8 Day tour (five star level) that also hits the high spots and includes a Nile Dinner Cruise for a special Tour Egypt rate of 550 GBP per person. Considering their excellent pricing, I have have always thought it might be a grand idea for North Americans to make a visit to their homeland of England, and then another fairly short trip on to Egypt.
Discover Egypt, also out of the UK, has some special rates for there Classic Egypt Tour. This is ten day tour including air and departing from London Heathrow. During July, this adventure will cost you 699 GBP and includes a seven night cruise aboard the Viking I or II Nile cruiser and accommodations at the four star Intercontinental Pyramids Park or Sofitel Le Sphinx in Cairo.
In Egypt, Min Travel has some great deals for a three day Cairo Break. This is a land only package (does not include international air, but great for the people who are winging it on their own). It includes four days in Cairo It is a vary flexible program that, depending on the price, will include three, four or five star hotels, at $175, $180 or $295 respectively (total for all three nights). It also includes tours to all the well known Cairo locations, as well as as Nile Dinner Cruise. Min travel also has great rates for various hotels throughout Egypt.
For those not wishing to take packaged tours, several of the hotels have specials. For example, the Iberotel, one of Egypt's major chains with hotels in a number of locations has a special where three nights gets a fourth for free in Sharm. And these are great resorts! Then there is always the famous Hotel Longchamps where well known Egyptologists often make their home away from home, as well as the staff of Tour Egypt, with daily rates as inexpensive as any one else's specials. However, they also have a Tour Egypt special of only $48 USD per night for their executive class rooms.
