Scene from Kawit's Sarcophagus

Photographer:

Egyptian Museum, Cairo

Title:

Scene from Kawit's Sarcophagus

Description:

Kawit's beautifully carved sarcophagus features one of several Middle Kingdom hairdressing scenes. The deceased sits on a chair holding a polished metal mirror in her left hand and a bowl in her right. In front of her stands a male servant pouring water, while behind her a female servant dresses her short wig. This scene, full of symbolism, is from her limestone sarcophagus at Deir el-Bahari.
