King Amenhotep III

King Amenhotep III

Colossal quartzite head wearing the red crown of Lower Egypt, from one of a series of statues of King Amenhotep III erected on the north side of the sun court in his funerary temple at Thebes. The statues were placed between the columns and stood with their feet together in the passive stance of mummiform deities like Osiris, although the king was shown wearing a kilt rather than wrapped as a mummy.
