How do we know this statue is of someone who belonged to royalty?

We often get clues about a person by what they are wearing or holding in an artwork. This statue gives us a couple of clues:

  1. The headdress he wears is called a "nemes ". It is a wig cover that was worn by Egyptian royalty.
  2. He is holding a mace in his hand. These ornamental clubs were symbols of authority.

So, we have a pretty good idea that this is a representation of a pharaoh.
