The Treasures and Pleasures of Egypt

Best of the Best in Travel and Shopping
An Impact Guide
$16.95

Eisht-el-omrein! La Dolce Vita! The Good Life! If this is your style of travel, complete with fine dining, five star hotels and shopping ‘til you drop, then the Krannich’s have produced the guide book for you.

While there are, as they indicate, many low-budget travel guides out there, not only for Egypt but other destinations, their goal with the Impact Guides is to provide information to the traveler, based on the belief that travel is "more than just another adventure in eating, sleeping, sightseeing and taking pictures of unfamiliar places."

Although the antiquities and sights in Egypt are not ignored in this book, not by any means, those treasures are not the main topic. Instead, the Krannich’s cover the major destinations in Egypt ( Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, Aswan and the Sinai) and give a thorough of tour of the uniqueness of each area, including hotels, restaurants, other activities and most of all, shopping. An entire chapter is devoted to The Shopping Treasures of Egypt ~ all sorts of items ranging from jewelry to applique’ work to perfumes and beyond, that you can find in Egypt, suggesting the best places to make your purchases and most importantly, how to get your treasures home in one piece. A wide variety of restaurants are also reviewed in each area, suitable to most any taste.

While I would not personally consider this my main guide to Egypt, it is, however, without a doubt, a very well-organized and useful guide in explaining some of the subtleties of travel in Egypt. As the preface states:

Exciting Egypt offers a wonderful travel experience for those who know what to look for, where to go, and how to properly travel and shop its major destinations. We discovered there is a lot more to "doing" Egypt than the pyramids, tombs, temples, mosques, desert, sun and beaches that often characterize Egypt’s travel image. For us, Egypt is an important shopping destination that yields unique arts, crafts, and jewelry as well as good restaurants, hotels, entertainment and outdoor sports. Egypt remains one of our favorite destinations. Its people, products, sights, and sounds continue to enrich our lives.

And I can’t argue with that assessment one bit!

TRAVEL PLANNING ON THE INTERNET

The Click and Easy Guide
$19.95

Ron and Caryl Krannich Ph.D.s

Another book published recently by the Krannich duo is The Click & Easy Series, Travel Planning on the Internet. While not specific to Egypt, this guide is an invaluable resource to anyone planning their trips using the Internet as the primary resource. This book provides the reader with information regarding everything from key search engines and directories to foreign language lessons, travel agents, tour operators, gateway travel sites and communities (such as Tour Egypt) as well as thousands of newsgroups and mailing lists.

A wealth of how-to for using the Internet, this guide opens up the travel resources of the world wide web for all travelers, regardless of price range or purpose.
