Egyptian Treasures head to Tennessee

August 28, 2011 - The Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville, Tennessee will be hosting To Live Forever: Egyptian Treasures from the Brooklyn Museum, a collection of Egyptian antiquities displaying and explaining the beliefs of ancient Egyptians towards the afterlife.

Visitors will learn about the rituals used when preparing for the afterlife from mummification to the funeral procession. The exhibit also explains the beliefs ancient Egyptians held about the afterlife and judgement day. This exhibit not only gives explanation for how the pharaohs prepared themselves for death but contrasts the extravagance displayed by the wealthy with the valiant attempts of the poor to imitate the efforts in order to secure a better place in the afterlife.

The exhibit will open October 7 in the Ingram Gallery and will wrap up in early January.
