Statement by the Egyptian Government
In a statement issued in Cairo, the Egyptian Government, its people and all political parties unanimously condemned the loss of innocent lives in the attack in Hatshepsut Temple in Luxor.
President Hosni Moubarak, during his visit to Luxor yesterday, expressed his deep sorrow for the innocent foreign and Egyptian casualties. He also extended deep condolences and sympathy of the Egyptian people to the victims' families. He personally checked the security situation in the tourist sites in Luxor, Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh. The President also ordered strong and stricter new measures for the safety of Egypt's foreign visitors in all tourist sites.
Such attack is undoubtedly alien to the peaceful nature of the Egyptian people. The Egyptian government, its people with all their different political and religious tendencies will always do their utmost to safeguard the safety and security of their visiting tourists.
