Antiphilus

Ptolemaic Period


A painter who was spoken of as a rival to Apelles (though not by Pliny, who considered him rather second-rate) Antiphilus was famous for the lightness and delicacy with which he executed his works. He ended his life at the court of Ptolemy I where he was much prized.
