Callixeinos of RhodesPtolemaic Dynasty
Callixeinos of Rhodes was an author who described the
great procession of Ptolemy II
Philadelphus, saying that a cult of Dionysus is the
focal point and the floats exhibited extravagant
scenarios of the god and his cult-followers, the grape
harvest, and enormous golden phallus fifty meters long
with a gold star three meters in circumference at the
end, to emphasize the priapic aspect of his worship.
