Neferu was the consort and queen of Amenemhet I. It is not known whether Neferu was of royal blood, but it is probable that Amenemhet married to strengthen his claim to the throne. Amenemhet was not of royal blood as he was a commoner of partial Nubian descent. He usurped the throne after the death of the king that he served as vizier. She must have been an heiress of considerable domain to give him the power and position that he needed. She had a small pyramid that was built for her near the king's tomb.
