StraboRoman Emperors
Strabo was a renowned geographer who visited Egypt
himself during the reign of Augustus
and found that delta at flood time was a striking sight,
stating : ' the whole country is under water and becomes a
lake, except the settlements and those are situated on
natural hills or on artificial mounds and contain cities
of considerable size and villages which, even when viewed
from afar, resemble islands.
