Egypt: Alexandria Area - The Past

Alexandria Area -- The Past

The Story goes that Homer appeared to Alexander the Great in a Dream and described a City he would build as "An island set in ocean deep, lies off fair Egypt's rich and fertile land, and the name of the island is called Pharos". Alex was an ancient Egyptian village called Rakhotis, designed by the architect Dinocrates. Our history section contains a large section on the history of Alexandria under Ptolemaic rule and Roman Rule.
