Philae Temple, Aswan, Egypt

Kalabsha Temple

  • Drive to the Temple of Kalabsha, which has been dismantled and re-erected on a hill near the High-Dam site (Western Bank). Originally built by Toutmosis II and Amenophis II at Kalabsha, 40 miles south of Aswan, the Temple was restored during the Roman conquest.

Kom Ombo

  • Leave the hotel by private car, reaching Kom Ombo after one hour drive on the Upper Egypt Corniche and across the countryside. Visit the Temple of Kom Ombo which stands on high grounds overlooking the Nile. It differs from other temples by its double entrance, each of which is dedicated to divinity: "Haroeris" with his falcon head and " Sobec" with his crocodile head. Although Kom Ombo is a small village, its importance lies in its huge sugar-cane.

Elephantine, Kitchener

  • Visit by felucca to islands of Aswan Elephantine, Kitchener and view of Agha Khan Mausoleum.

6. Full day:

Kom Ombo & Edfu

  • Leave the hotel by private car, reaching Kom Ombo after one hour drive on the Upper Egypt Corniche and across the countryside. Visit of Kom Ombo Temple which stands on high ground overlooking the River Nile. Excursion continues to Edfu by car. Cross the Nile, then proceed by horse carriage to visit the majestic temple dedicated to Horus.

Abu Simple Temple

  • The colossal Temple of Abu Simbel built by Ramses II (XIXth. Dynasty) and lately saved from inundation of the Nile waters in among the glories of ancient Egyptian monuments. The temples were built out of a sandstone rock cliff, and representation of the deities to which each was dedicated are carved on its huge faade. Nearby, also saved, lies the small Temple of the King's wife Nefertari, dedicated to the goddess Hathor. This excursion can be undertaken by plane or bus.

14. Full Day Tour:

High Dam-Temple of Philae Island

  • Sail by felucca (Egyptian sailboat) to the island of Agilkia. Visit the temple that was removed from their original island of Philae which lies submerged most of the year by the waters of Lake Nasser. The main Temple of Isis and its monuments were built between the 26th-dynasty and the Roman period. Return to the mainland and drive to Aswan for a view of the high Dam which was completed in 1964. From here you can gaze across Lake Nasser
