Siwan tribes are well known for all coming together at marriages and other occasions, maintaining cohesion in the remote oasis complex. Alexander the Great is one of the better known travelers who made it to this outpost of civilization on the edge of the Sahara desert. According to local tradition, Cleopatra (VII) may have come here, too.
