Ammonius Saccas was a mysterious and very influential teacher who warned about the dangers of drawing too rigid division between pagans and Christians. He was perhaps a son of Christian parents who apostasised to paganism. His pupils included some of the most profound and influential of all the pagan neo-Platonists, Plotinus, and Origen.
