Ankhnesmery-Re II

6th Dynasty

Ankhnesmery-Re II was the wife of Pepi I and the daughter of an official named Khui. Her sister was Ankhnesmery-Re I and Djau was her brother. She was the mother of Pepi II. When Pepi II succeeded his brother, Nemtyemzaf, Ankhnesmery-Re II was the regent for her son. Her brother Djau, aided her as vizier. They raised Pepi II together and kept Egypt stable until the heir was old enough to rule on his own. The story of Ankhnesmery-Re I and II were found on a tablet at Abydos.
